My childhood toys vs Bubba's
One of the best things about being a parent is getting to relive your childhood and remember all your toys. I found this very easy as my own mum kept so many of our toys and they are pretty much the same. Ok they have modernised them but the concept is exactly the same.
Snoopy the dog has to be my favorite and I made sure Bubba got his own version for our house for Christmas.
What do you remember?????????????????????

World through a baby's eyes
When was the last time you stopped and really took notice of the world and all it beholds?
When was the last time you simply sat in front of the washing machine watching it spin thinking its the funniest thing in the world?
When was the last time you fascinated over a wooden spoon bashing everything in your path to see what it sounds with, try feed it to the dog or comb your hair with it?
Everything to a baby is a learning experience and the chance to explore their senses and devolp new skills. Watching Bubba everyday amazes me. He has so many toys and yet he still loves his treasure basket with all it's, colours and textures. I often wonder what he is thinking as he plays and he gets so excited about a coaster or the fact that there is a baby trapped in the glass cabinet that he has to say hello to at least 50 times a day and give a kiss.
Now the vacum cleaner is his ultimate toy. When he first learnt to crawl he would drag his toys one by one to show the dyson what it does and when we switch it on he turns into The Hulk baby....arms up and grrrrrrrrrr!

He is just really starting to take notice of our dog Daisy, learning which are her toys and giving them to her and then screaming 'Ta' at her for not thanking him. It must be so fustrating to have all these friends to talk to and none of them talk back.
Just take the time for a second and look around your room and imagining seeing everything for the first time. A computer with all its lights and buttons, your mum and dad engrossed in a tiny laptop (that which we call a mobile) and we wonder why little people want it all the time, a feather escaped from a sofa cushion.
As adults we loose the connection with all these little things and forget that everything is new and shiny to a little person, as a parent you are granted the gift to experience this all over again. So take time to watch your little people and join in with them I asure you, you both will love it.

Winter...why I love it
Wrapping up in a big coat, scarf and gloves is the most comforting feeling in the world.

Winter is my favourite season for many reasons here are just a few
The sound of the crunch underfoot as you walk on frozen grass
The atmosphere in the lead up to christmas, everyone is so happy
The crisp clear night sky full of stars The thoughts of childhood...snowdays and no school, coming home freezing to your mum and a lovely warm house, snow fights, snowmen, sunday nights with Grandma in front of fire with our cat curled up on her lap
The excuse to watch every christmas film ever made and be able to tell the world without feeling ashamed
Evenings with the fire on and candles lit snuggled up to your beloved
The overwhelming erdge to hibernate
Winter food, pies, puddings, stew, cornbeef hash....

Messy Play
Every tea time bubba loves messing with his food so I decided to dedicate some time to messy play.
Last time we attempted painting for a handprint and footprint it was a nightmare as he just wanted to eat it and it itched like crazy on my skin.
This in mind I did some research into homemade messy play. I still can't believe the amount of things you can make. There really is no excuse not to do this kind of play using 'expense' as a barrier.
Why is play important
Play is an important part in a child's development. Messy play allows a child to explore their senses, develop co-ordination and introduces them to imagination ideas.
The thing I like the most is that there is no right or wrong way to play!
Here are the recipes for the activities we tried.
Playdoh recipe
1 cup flour
1 cup water - with food colouring
1 tablespoon of oil.
Add flour to bowl and add oil and mix. Slowly add the water, till you make a dough consistency - should only need about 1/4 of the cup.
The oil makes it realy soft! Baby oil works as well and has a lovely smell!
You can also add flavouring you may find you need a bit more flour.
Keep it in the fridge in air tight container and will keep for about a week.
Bubba was not too keen on this! Did not like the texture and kept poking at it.
Finger Paint
1 cup Flour
1 cup cool water
3 cups boiling water
Food coloring.
Mix the flour and cool water in a cooking pot. Gradually pour in the boiling hot water. Place on stove, and continue to stir constantly until it comes to a boil. Remove from heat. Stir in food coloring, and allow to cool. (If you would like to have multiple colors, separate the mix into different bowls before adding colors!)
Can be stored for one or two days in the refrigerator.
This "paint" is totally edible and therefore PERFECT for toddlers to finger paint with! Be aware however that food coloring can potentially stain. So dress appropriately!
I found this to be quite gloopy like wall paper paste and would have taken days to dry so I put in oven on slow cook for 20 mins to aid process.
This was by far the messiest and favourite
Cornflour
1 cup cornflower
1 cup of cold water
Mix together. You should be able to pick up the mixture and it will then run from your fingers.
I didn't have cornflour so used custard powder
It took him a while to get use to this and fact I made it wrong first time didn't help once I got it right (bowl) he loved it

Go on get messy!!!

Family Traditions ... do you still have them
Watching How I Met Your Mother and it's the start of their Thanksgiving traditions which got me thinking about my families and what I want Bubba to do too and what traditions I can start with my own family.
As a child I remember the following
1) Watching Santa Claus The Movie every Xmas eve with my brother before bed.
I still do this now and will do so with Bubba it makes me feel like a kid again waiting for Santa to come
2) Having a Santa sack and stocking
We all have a stocking and Bubba has a Santa sack and this will continue each year only with mince pies and milk for Santa and carrots for the reindeer
3) Boxing day having a family get together at my aunty's
I'd like to make sure I do something like this each year as to me Christmas is all about family, even though the beloveds family tradition is get drunk!
4) Having a crotchet blanket on each bed and it being the ultimate comfort when Ill or heartbroken.
I've recently taken up making these as I want bubba to having something that he associates with home at any age. Even if his daddy thinks I've turned old before my time and now refers to me as Grandama!
5) Family film time
This is a must for us we love films and before bubba we'd spend Weekends on the sofa with good films and a duvet.
6) Trips to seaside with dads music. Every time I hear fleet wood mac I'm instantly taken back
Bubba has no choice his dad will make him listen to rubbish whilst I educate him on finer tastes.
I also will start the tradition of a Sunday dinner every week. We didn't really have this growing up and you can't beat the smell of meat roasting in the oven while you watch Disney films or dance around to the stereo. Correction I Pod!

"There is no doubt that it is around the family and the home that all the greatest virtues, the most dominating virtues of human society, are created, strengthened and maintained”
Quote by Winston Churchill
Other peoples misfortunes
So the snow fell at the weekend and I have discovered I really do feel happy when watching other people's misfortunes.
Our street is one long slow hill and within about an hour I could hear the sound that draws me to the window...screeching, skidding tyres of cars stuck half way up the hill. I watch in ore thinking you stupid people why try when you know you'll fail (having been there myself).
What's that I see, my neighbour randomly out helping these poor drivers. He really is a good guy but he was ruining my fun!
Why is it we laugh at other peoples misfortunes? I do it all the time and wonder if it's being nervous in a situation no one has any control over!
Either way it still makes me chuckle and therefore makes me feel better.
I'm going to hell for sure.

My poor son (and the dog)
I like to think bubba is well looked after and has the things he needs but 2 events caught on camera this week don't look too good for poor daddy and mummy.
Sunday morning
After a night with friends I got up with Bubba and did the usual of putting him down while I went to get him his drink. I come back to find he's found his own (empty) drink kindly left out by daddy.
Wednesday Evening
Daddy comes home with a gift for Daisy although the poor thing is very confused when Bubba decides to claim it (he is teething). Don't worry Daisy got her own back when Bubba tried to chew her sacred bone. I swear they can communicate as just the look from Daisy to Bubba prompted him to instantly give it to her. The poor dog wasn't expected to be shouted at by a baby saying 'TA' for next 5 minutes. How dare she not thank him!
I'm trying to write a blog about what is good parenting...maybe not this lol.

Caramel Kit Kat
Ok so it's not part of the challenge but I tried caramel Kit Kat today and it's just wrong. Caramel should be thick and runny not a fudge type thing! This should be discontinued and two new ones introduced!
Job Centre horror
Well today was the most degrading day of my life. For the first time in my life I'm at the job centre as a client not a contract provider.
Skip back a year...I used to manage several contracts to aid training for the unemployed. I came here to advise and sell our courses or to kick arse and demand referrals. I'm sure you can now understand why this is so horrible.
Anyway my appointment was 2:05pm to be told its been changed to 2:30pm! Joy I have to sit longer now.
What a site to behold, there's what people would class as your regulars who know all the advisors by name and clearly know how to work the system. There's your school leavers with the attitude, a poor man who looks like he is broken from the horrors of life and another women who like me looks mortified and moving further and further from the man next to her. Well I can smell him from here and that's saying something cause the guy next to me stinks of weed!
I've been recognised!!! The utter humiliation "well well never thought I'd see you on this side of things".
I can also hear someone refering a client to one of my old courses...Jesus no wonder we had to fight for clients they no nothing and under enthusiastic is being nice!!!
Ok so now i've been seen and what a joke. All I wanted was to get me stamp paid and stay on mat leave till March but they wouldn't do that they would only pay my JSA. So I was trying not to take JSA and they were trying to force it on me! Go figure! I told them I wasn't ready to work yet ect so she very politely told me to do one, I was not quite so polite back.
After all that trauma I ring National Insurence and i'm bloody covered through Child Benefit!
God help me when I actually do need to sign on! Why would anyone want to subject themselves to that every 2 weeks for £60 odd pounds! Don't get me wrong people do genuinly need help with job serach but long term...not for me!
